Death and Mourning
The Temple Israel Family extends its condolences to you as you mourn the loss of your loved one. We are here for you in your time of need. When a death occurs, please call the synagogue at 518-438-7858 so that we may inform the clergy, offer support, and assist you with arrangements for the funeral, burial, and shiva. Additionally, our clergy are available to help you develop Hebrew text for headstones and Yahrtzeit plaques.
Cemetery
Temple Israel owns burial plots in the Temple Israel section of the cemetery located at 1620 Western Avenue, Albany, NY. The cemetery is open between 8 am and sundown Sunday through Friday except on Jewish Holy Days.
For information on obtaining burial plots in Temple Israel's cemetery, please email our Executive Director, Rachael Schertzer, or call 518-438-7858. Also, you can fill out a Burial Plot Inquiry form on-line by clicking here.
As of July 1, 2022, the cost of a burial plot will increase from $1,500 to $2,000 for Temple Israel members and from $3,000 to $4,000 for non-members. Anyone considering the purchase of a plot in our cemetery has until July 1, 2022 to make a reservation for a plot at the current price. Arrangements for payment can be spread over two years (i.e. up to July 1, 2024).
